Five Cheap Tips to Boost Your Home’s Value

Five Cheap Tips to Boost Your Home’s Value
News from Fox Business:

Here are five inexpensive ways to increase the value of your home for sale.

With home prices falling again, it might be foolish to spend thousands on a new kitchen or bath. Instead, say veteran real estate agents, you can wow buyers by using a few household cleaners, generous amounts of elbow grease and some thoughtful staging.

1. Make Sure Your House Smells OK

A house that smells right sells right.

“It should smell like a normal, clean house,” Rona Fischman, principal broker of 4 Buyers Real Estate in Cambridge, Mass. “If it smells like it just had an industrial cleaning or a cover-up smell or of rotting garbage, it really turns people off.”

This is something you must get just right. You don’t want to gross out buyers, but neither can you afford to freak them out. Any whiff of cat urine or dog bed, and your prospective buyer, unless he or she runs an animal rescue mission, is likely to make a quick exit. The same goes for…………… continues on Fox Business

How To Load And Run A Dishwasher For Efficiency And Ultimate Cleanliness
News from Lifehacker Australia:

Loading a dishwasher is easy, right? Just toss the dishes in, add your choice of cleaning product, and you’re done. If that’s the case, why do we all too often wind up re-washing dishes as soon as they come out, or finding dishes at the end of the cycle that weren’t completely cleaned? Here’s how to load your dishwasher for maximum efficiency and maximum cleaning power.

To Pre-Wash or Not To Pre-Wash

Whether or not you should pre-wash or pre-rinse your dishes is a matter of hot debate, but it shouldn’t be. If you have a lot of loose food on your dishes, you should at least scrape or rinse it off. If you have stuck or burnt on food, you should probably pre-wash. If you have an older dishwasher, you should probably at least rinse. Ph…………… continues on Lifehacker Australia

Healthy Minute: Tips for Reducing Indoor Air Pollution
News from Daily Ardmoreite:

Most of us know about the hazards of air pollution caused by automobiles and factories, but indoor air pollution can be just as much of a problem. Sources that diminish indoor air quality include pet dander, household products like cleaning solvents and air fresheners, mold, and gases like carbon monoxide and radon. And let’s not forget cigarette smoke, which is one of the most common pollutants.

“One of the most dangerous air pollutants is cigarette smoke,” said Summer Kirby, MD, a family practice physician at Memorial Medical Clinic in Ardmore. “Restricting smoking is one of the easiest and most effective things you can do to create a healthier environment.”

Breathing these contaminants can lead to an array of health problems, from eye, throat or skin irritation to headaches and breathing problems. In severe cases, they can also cause lung disease and cancer. According to the World Health Organization, indoor air pollutants cause 1.5 million deaths each year.<…………… continues on Daily Ardmoreite

Fluffy just ate what? Common household pet toxins.
News from Nashua Telegraph:

Most households include substances potentially toxic to our pets. Unfortunately, pets ingest these toxins because their curious behavior makes them more likely to ingest things that seem unappetizing to us. Another consideration is that the metabolism of cats and dogs is different than humans, and some medications or foods commonly used by humans, such as chocolate and Tylenol, can have severe affects on our pets. The best way to prevent a potential toxicity in your pet is to be aware of the risk, pet-proof your house and know the appropriate actions to take if your pet has ingested something toxic.

Just as families have to child-proof their home before a new baby arrives, it is important for pet owners to pet-proof their home before adding a cat or dog to the family. Securely store all cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paint thinner, pesticides, fertilizers, rat poison and antifreeze. These types of products shoul…………… continues on Nashua Telegraph
