Laundry Pods
Laundry detergent pods have quickly become a serious poisoning threat to young children, causing thousands of American kids to vomit, choke or suffer more serious symptoms since the products went on sale in the U.S. in early 2012. In the first year on the market, at least 769 children younger than 6 were hospitalized in after ingesting or handling laundry pods, which have appealing designs that resemble large pieces of candy.

The gold dome atop the New Hampshire State House will finally get a long-awaited shine.

The delicate process of rebuilding and regilding the capitol building in Concord began this past weekend. Next year, the dingy dome will have a new coat of 23½-karat gold.

“Six years, we’ve been working on this and doing a design and going back to the drawing board,” said Mike Connor, deputy commissioner of the Department of Environmental Services. “It does finally feel good to have it actually start.”

With winds measuring up to 105 mph when the storm hit, the Category 2 typhoon left hundreds of people homeless and most of the island’s 53,000 residents to dispose of damaged property. Texas residents were faced with the same dilemma following a spring flooding that was declared a major disaster by President Obama. Flood waters destroyed many homes in San Marcos, requiring residents to clean up debris and other waste products before rebuilding. In addition to spoiled food and damaged furniture, they also may be faced with hazardous chemicals.

Rebuilding or cleaning up storm-damaged homes or buildings is not as simple as 1-2-3, but there are safety precautions that you can take in the event of a storm to prevent or minimize chemical leaks and safely remove hazardous wastes when the weather clears.
